NMN is a metabolite of niacin called β-Nicotinamide mononucleotide. It can be found in breast milk, edamame beans, broccolis and avocados. It is a type of vitamin B3 and presents in the bodies of all living organisms. Vitamin B3 is supplemented by daily meals and it synthesized with enzymes and other substances in the body to produce NMN.

In the brain, there is a region called the hypothalamus and it contains longevity genes named as sirtuin genes. NMN is the precursor of coenzyme (NAD+/Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) which
acts on the sirtuin genes.
